From 1 January 2026, new industry rules apply to water installations in kitchens. If you are planning a renovation, replacing a dishwasher, kitchen mixer tap or other water-connected kitchen equipment, it is important to know what applies before any work begins.

The new rules come from Säker Vatteninstallation 2026:1 and have been introduced to reduce the risk of water damage in homes. The rules only apply to new or altered water installations carried out after 1 January 2026. There is therefore no requirement to rebuild existing kitchens or older installations simply because the rules have changed.
For residents, this means that any work in the kitchen involving water installations must meet the new requirements. This may include, for example, replacing a dishwasher, replacing a kitchen mixer tap, or installing other water-connected kitchen equipment.
An important change is that active protection against water damage is now required for new or altered kitchen installations. This may include, for example, a water alarm, leak shut-off device, or water fault breaker. There are also requirements for passive protection, such as a watertight insert in the sink cabinet or a drip tray under water-connected equipment.
Because these rules may affect both liability for damage and insurance compensation, it is important that you always contact the Board before starting a renovation or installation involving water in the kitchen. The work must be carried out professionally and in accordance with current industry rules.
Please contact the Board at styrelsen@silverdalsbacken.se before work begins, and we will help guide you on what applies.
