Recurring issues in the pump station – no waste in the toilet

Sollentuna Energi och Miljö (SEOM) has informed us that their pump station servicing our area has been experiencing recurring disruptions.

The issues are often caused by rags, wet wipes, paper towels, and other objects flushed down the toilet, where they get stuck and block the pumps. When this occurs, manual clearing is required, which is both time-consuming and costly. If the issues are not addressed in time, there is a risk of untreated wastewater leaking into our waterways.

To help prevent these disruptions, we kindly ask that only urine, feces, and toilet paper be flushed down the toilet. Any other waste can cause blockages in our pipes and pump stations, which not only raises the risk of flooding but also leads to higher fees and environmental harm.

Important reminders and tips for keeping our sewer systems running smoothly:
  • Do not flush: wet wipes, cotton swabs, rags, paper towels, tampons, or cotton pads – these cause blockages and additional waste at the treatment plant.
  • Environmentally hazardous waste such as turpentine, acetone, paint residues, and other strong chemicals should always be taken to a recycling center.
  • Unused medications should be returned to a pharmacy, as they cannot be filtered out at our facilities and can harm the environment.
Tips for a waste-free toilet:
  • Keep a waste bin in the bathroom for items that don’t belong in the toilet.
  • Dispose of cat litter in general waste (combustible), never in the toilet.
  • Avoid flushing snuff and cigarette butts, as they contain harmful substances that can contaminate our water sources.

For any questions, please feel free to contact SEOM at 08-623 88 00 or via email at vatten@seom.se. Thank you for helping keep our sewer systems functional and protecting the environment!
